Impressions: Seishun amiigo, despite being released in November, had risen up the charts to become the top-selling single of 2005. What does this single owe to its success? Seishun amiigo no doubt surprised me with its record sales. I'll admit that I fell for the title track the first time I watched Nobuta wo produce, the drama for which it is the theme song for. Yet, I still didn't imagine it would become this successful. It has all the right factors backing it though. First, it is the theme song for a highly anticipated trendy drama. Second, the song is sung by the two leading male characters in this drama. Third, the actors playing these characters, Kamenashi Kazuya and Yamashita Tomohisa are beautiful, young and popular as well as being emerging idols. Fourth, the coupling tracks feature two never-before released themes to two other popular dramas, Gokusen and Dragonzakura and are solos by aforementioned idols that also starred in these dramas. Fifth, it's a damn catchy song. If none of the factors above interest you and you're looking for a highly unique, beautifuly composed track, you may not want to consider this. It's definitely one of those songs that just doesn't hold up as well on its own. However, if you did watch any of the above dramas and aren't entirely sick of the themes after they'd been looped in the background countless times, you'll love this single. - April 27, 2006 | ||||||||||||||||||
