Mario Kart DS

Impressions:

MarioKart DS Screen 1

Mario Kart racing has always had a special place in my heart. It has the perfect balance between racing and action, and it has always been very much geared toward multiplayer from the start. I am proud to say that the DS version of the game did not let me down. It quite possibly is the most complete and solid version of the game to date. All your basic racers like Mario, Lugi, Toad, Princess and Bowser are back. Each Character has 2 different Karts to choose from initially. One is your typical standard Kart. The other is a Special DS car, which is more of a beginner car because it gives you better items. There are also secret cars and characters to unlock. What Mario Kart game doesn't have unlockables?

The game includes 12 DS exclusive tracks. There is also retro cup which has different races from all previous incarnations of the Mario Kart franchise! Missions have been added to the single player mode, which allow players to work on different skills such as power sliding. The best thing about Mario Kart DS is the option to play opponents over the internet Via Nintendo’s Wi Fi connection.

MarioKart DS Screen 2

It was intense when I faced my first opponent, a contender from Japan. I would name him, but I can’t read Kanji, godamnit! It didn’t really matter what his name was though because I got whooped so bad! I couldn't even see him on the DS's lower screen overhead map. He might have been cheating. But anyways, I was just happy the wireless connection worked. The Wi Fi connection is actually quite simple to setup. All you need is a wireless signal. As long as you have a wireless router you are good to go. If you don't have the wireless router, don't worry. You can get the Nintendo Wi Fi USB adapter which allows you to get a wireless signal that way.

Parting Words:

MarioKart DS Screen 3 I have had and am still having a great time with this game. With countless multiplayer opponents made possible through the Wi Fi connection, it will be hard to get bored of this game. Sure it’s a kiddy game, but it’s still as addictive and competitive as when you were a toddler running around in school. For those of you who wonder who I am online? Keep an eye out for the Yoshi named Cain.
