2006 Archives Sunday, October 29/06 Veterans in the manga industry: Tokyopop is a company that is synonymous with the word manga in North America. Founded back in 1996 by Stuart J. Levy, Tokyopop to date has released more manga in North America than any other company. Some might even argue that it was Tokyopop that really helped push manga into the mainstream market. With so much experience in publishing manga, Tokypop has been looking at other areas of printed media to get into. Well starting this fall 2006, Tokyopop is starting a new line of books called Pop Fiction. And there are a couple of books in their Pop Fiction line that anime fans will definitely recognize. A good diversion from traditional manga: Tokyopop is planning to release four titles when it launches its Pop Fiction line of novels this fall. The four books are Magic Moon, Witch’s Forest, Scrapped Princess and Kino No Tabi. Anime fans will recognize Scrapped Princess and Kino No Tabi because both novels have already been adapted into anime TV series. Scrapped Princess is a 13 volume release and the Kino No Tabi series consist of a total of five novels. Tokyopop plans to release more novels under the Pop Fiction imprint in the future. The following quotes taken from Tokyopop’s website will give you a better understanding of the concept behind the Pop Fiction line of novels:

Wednesday, January 18/06 New illustration book from fan-favorite artist: Wani Magazine is publishing a new original illustration book by artist Range Murata. The book is titled form/code and is being released sometime between mid to late February. Like previous illustration books by Range Murata, the book itself will have a unique design to it, right down to custom made binding designed by Murata himself. The book is expected to consist of 160 pages and is packaged with a miniature PVC character figure designed by Range Murata. Many of Range Murata’s previous illustrations books are already out of print, so I strongly suggest you pre-order a copy today; unless you like the over inflated prices on e-bay!
